October Movies you should see

O

🎬October is here, and Hollywood is bringing the heat—and the horror.

If you’ve been waiting for the next great movie night, October 2026 has plenty to choose from.

We’ve got psychological thrillers, video-game action, underwater survival, superhero horror and enough creepy stuff to make you think twice before turning off the bedroom light.

So grab the popcorn.

Here are the October movies movie buffs should have on their radar.

🔥 OCTOBER 9 — OTHER MOMMY

The Halloween season officially gets creepy.

Jessica Chastain takes on a seriously unsettling role in Other Mommy, a supernatural horror movie from director Rob Savage and producer James Wan.

The setup?

An eight-year-old girl encounters an entity that looks and sounds exactly like her mother.

Yeah.

That’s nightmare fuel.

The movie comes from the team behind some serious horror pedigree, including Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, and is based on Josh Malerman’s novel Incidents Around the House. (NBCUNIVERSAL MEDIA)

Why movie fans should care:
It’s arriving at exactly the right time—two weeks before Halloween—and it has the ingredients horror fans love: creepy family dynamics, supernatural terror and a familiar face that suddenly doesn’t feel familiar anymore.

Halloween meter: 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

📱 OCTOBER 9 — THE SOCIAL RECKONING

Not every October movie is about monsters.

The Social Reckoning brings real-world drama to the big screen.

Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, the movie is a companion piece to The Social Network and follows Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz as they expose secrets inside the social-media giant. Sony describes it as a true David-and-Goliath story inspired by real events.

The cast includes:

  • Mikey Madison
  • Jeremy Allen White
  • Wunmi Mosaku
  • Betty Gilpin
  • Jeremy Strong
  • Bill Burr

This is the one for movie buffs who like smart dialogue, real-world controversy and Oscar-season-style drama.

🥊 OCTOBER 16 — STREET FIGHTER

Hadouken!

The video-game crowd finally gets another shot at seeing Street Fighter explode onto the big screen.

Ryu.

Ken.

Chun-Li.

Blanka.

M. Bison.

And a whole lot of kicking, punching and yelling.

The new movie is set in 1993 and follows Ryu and Ken as Chun-Li recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament.

And the cast is definitely getting attention.

Andrew Koji plays Ryu.

Noah Centineo plays Ken.

Jason Momoa plays Blanka.

Roman Reigns plays Akuma.

50 Cent plays Balrog.

Cody Rhodes plays Guile.

Why this could be October’s popcorn monster

It’s based on one of gaming’s most recognizable fighting franchises, and the movie has a huge built-in audience.

For fans who grew up throwing imaginary Hadoukens at their friends, this is basically an invitation to come back to the arcade.

Nostalgia + video games + action + big stars = potentially big business.

🐋 OCTOBER 16 — WHALEFALL

Here’s the movie that sounds completely insane when you explain it.

A diver gets swallowed by a massive sperm whale.

And he’s got approximately one hour of oxygen.

That’s the movie.

You’re welcome.

Whalefall stars Austin Abrams, Josh Brolin, Elisabeth Shue and Jane Levy, with Brian Duffield directing. (20th Century Studios)

The story follows Jay Gardiner, who dives off the California coast while dealing with the death of his father. Then things go from emotionally complicated to “OH NO, I’M INSIDE A WHALE.”

The movie hits theaters October 16. (20th Century Studios)

Why it’s interesting

It’s different.

And sometimes that’s exactly what gets movie fans into theaters.

It’s part survival thriller, part family drama and part giant-creature nightmare.

Claustrophobic movie fans: maybe don’t sit too close to the screen.

🦇 OCTOBER 23 — CLAYFACE

Here’s the big Halloween-weekend wild card.

DC is taking one of Batman’s strangest villains and turning him into something much darker.

Clayface arrives October 23 as a horror thriller rather than a traditional superhero adventure.

Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen, a Hollywood actor whose attempt to restore himself after being horribly disfigured sends him down a horrifying path of revenge. ([Clayface | Official Movie Site)

And look who’s behind the camera:

James Watkins.

The screenplay comes from Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, while producers include Matt Reeves, James Gunn and Peter Safran. ([Clayface | Official Movie Site)

That’s enough Hollywood horsepower to make comic-book fans pay attention.

But here’s the twist:

This isn’t being sold as your typical superhero movie.

It’s R-rated body horror.

Think DC meets Halloween.

And that’s exactly why it could become one of October’s biggest conversation starters.

😱 OCTOBER 23 — THE HALLOWEEN COUNTDOWN BEGINS

By the time Clayface arrives, we’re officially in the Halloween home stretch.

That’s when movie theaters and streaming services become horror playgrounds.

Want something scary?

You’ve got it.

Want something creepy but not terrifying?

You’ve got that too.

Want to watch something ridiculous with friends while eating too much popcorn?

October has you covered.

The horror genre is especially busy this month, with new theatrical releases and streaming additions arriving throughout the Halloween season. (TechRadar)

🩸 OCTOBER 30 — STILETTO

Just in time for Halloween weekend comes Stiletto, a horror film produced by Eli Roth in which a serial killer stalks exotic dancers.

It’s scheduled for October 30. (Cinema United)

This is the kind of movie that doesn’t need a complicated explanation.

It’s Halloween weekend. There’s a killer. People are being hunted.

Turn off the lights.

Press play.

Regret your decision later.

🍿 WHAT ABOUT VERITY?

If you’re more into psychological suspense than monsters, Verity arrived October 2.

The movie stars Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett and adapts Colleen Hoover’s bestselling thriller about a writer who discovers disturbing secrets while taking over another author’s work. (Good Housekeeping)

And there’s already some box-office interest around it.

Box Office Pro’s current weekend forecast had Verity opening around $25 million–$35 million domestically, making it one of the more commercially interesting adult-oriented releases in the early October frame. (Boxoffice Pro)

So if you’ve already seen the trailer and thought, “Something ain’t right in that house,” you’re probably not alone.

🏆 Which Movies Could Break Out?

Nobody has a crystal ball, and calling an unreleased movie a guaranteed blockbuster is asking for trouble.

But looking at franchise recognition, recognizable stars, genre popularity, release timing and current industry attention, several October releases have obvious commercial ingredients.

Street Fighter has the video-game audience.

Clayface has DC and Halloween audiences.

Other Mommy has the horror crowd plus Jessica Chastain, James Wan, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster.

Verity has a bestselling-book audience and major stars.

Whalefall has an incredibly simple “you have to see this” premise.

And The Social Reckoning has Aaron Sorkin plus the built-in interest of a story connected to one of the biggest technology controversies of the social-media era.

That’s a pretty healthy October movie menu.

🎃 THE REAL WINNER: MOVIE NIGHT

Here’s the beauty of October.

You don’t have to agree on the best movie.

You don’t even have to like the same genre.

One person can watch Street Fighter.

Another can hide under a blanket during Other Mommy.

Somebody else can argue that Clayface is actually the movie of the month.

And there’s always that one friend who says:

“Let’s watch a horror movie.”

Then spends the entire movie covering their eyes.

You know who you are. 😂

October is officially movie season.

The theaters are loaded.

Halloween is coming.

And Hollywood is giving movie buffs plenty of reasons to leave the couch.

So grab the popcorn, pick your weapon of choice—action, horror, thriller or drama—and enjoy the show.
