The 2026 NBA Draft delivered future stars, franchise-changing talent, and plenty of hope for struggling teams.
While it will take years to know who truly won, several organizations walked away from draft night looking significantly better than they did 48 hours ago.
Here are my Top 5 NBA Draft Winners and their report cards.
๐ 1. Washington Wizards
Grade: A+
Pick:
AJ Dybantsa (BYU)
The Wizards landed the player many scouts considered the best prospect in the draft.
Dybantsa led Division I basketball in scoring during his lone season at BYU and possesses the size, athleticism, and shot-creation ability that NBA teams covet. At 6-foot-9, he can score from anywhere on the floor, attack the basket, and defend multiple positions. Washington desperately needed a franchise cornerstone, and they may have found one.
Why This Pick Matters
The Wizards have been searching for a superstar to build around for years. Dybantsa instantly becomes the face of the rebuild and gives fans a reason to believe the future is finally bright in Washington.
๐ 2. Memphis Grizzlies
Grade: A
Pick:
Cameron Boozer (Duke)
The Grizzlies may have landed the biggest steal of the draft.
Boozer entered the draft after winning National Player of the Year honors at Duke. He is a powerful forward who rebounds, scores efficiently, passes exceptionally well for his position, and consistently impacts winning. Many analysts viewed him as one of the safest prospects in the entire class.
Why This Pick Matters
Memphis already has a strong core. Adding Boozer gives them another high-IQ player who can contribute immediately while also developing into a future All-Star.
๐ 3. Utah Jazz
Grade: A
Pick:
Darryn Peterson (Kansas)
The Jazz landed one of the most explosive guards in the draft.
Peterson is a dynamic scorer who can create his own shot, attack off the dribble, and make plays for teammates. In today’s NBA, elite shot creators are worth their weight in gold, and Peterson has the talent to become exactly that.
Why This Pick Matters
Utah has been searching for a player capable of becoming the centerpiece of its next playoff contender. Peterson has superstar upside and gives Jazz fans plenty to be excited about.
๐ 4. Chicago Bulls
Grade: B+
Picks:
Caleb Wilson (North Carolina)
Dailyn Swain (Texas)
The Bulls focused on athleticism, versatility, and long-term upside.
Wilson brings length, rebounding, defensive versatility, and the ability to guard multiple positions. Swain adds toughness, athleticism, and developmental upside. Together, they give Chicago two young building blocks who fit the modern NBA.
Why This Pick Matters
Chicago needed youth and upside. Rather than chasing short-term fixes, the Bulls committed to developing a young core that could pay dividends for years.
๐ 5. Oklahoma City Thunder
Grade: B+
Picks:
Aday Mara (Michigan)
Bennett Stirtz (Iowa)
The Thunder once again showed why they are one of the smartest front offices in basketball.
Aday Mara is a massive 7-foot-3 center known for rim protection, rebounding, and interior defense. Bennett Stirtz adds perimeter shooting, playmaking, and basketball IQ. Oklahoma City addressed multiple needs while adding depth to an already talented roster.
Why This Pick Matters
The Thunder are already contenders. Instead of drafting for immediate star power, they focused on complementary pieces that could help them compete for championships over the next several seasons.
