NFL Fans Stunned After Giants WR Carted Off Field

The New York Giants may already be facing an injury crisis — and it’s only May.

During Friday’s OTA practice in East Rutherford, veteran wide receiver and return specialist Gunner Olszewski went down with a noncontact injury that has the organization fearing the worst: a torn Achilles tendon.

Witnesses at practice said Olszewski immediately grabbed the back of his right leg after making a cut on the grass field. He slammed his fist in frustration before being carted off the field while teammates watched in silence.

That scene instantly sent alarm bells ringing around the Giants organization.

And honestly? Giants fans have seen this movie too many times already this offseason.

Another Achilles Injury for the Giants

Olszewski could become the THIRD Giants player this spring to suffer a torn Achilles.

Defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris recently suffered the same injury during OTAs, while undrafted rookie Thaddeus Dixon also reportedly tore his Achilles earlier this offseason.

That’s becoming a major concern inside the building.

Head coach John Harbaugh called the injury “disappointing” and confirmed it happened during a noncontact change-of-direction drill on grass.

Why This Hurts the Giants More Than People Think

Casual NFL fans might overlook Olszewski’s name, but the veteran quietly played an important role for New York.

He handled punt returns, kickoff duties, and provided depth at receiver. Last season he averaged 26.2 yards per kick return and added receiving production when called upon.

In Week 18 against the Dallas Cowboys, Olszewski had the best game of his career:

  • 8 catches
  • 102 receiving yards
  • Big-play energy when the offense needed it most

Now the Giants suddenly look very thin at wide receiver.

Giants WR Room Suddenly Looks Fragile

The timing couldn’t be worse.

Malik Nabers is still rehabbing a knee injury, while Darius Slayton continues recovering from core muscle surgery.

That leaves the Giants scrambling for healthy depth before training camp even starts.

Reports around the league suggest this injury could also reopen conversations about Odell Beckham Jr. returning to New York. The Giants reportedly showed interest in Beckham earlier this offseason.

At this point, fans are already wondering:
Could OBJ really make one more return to MetLife?

Fans React Online

NFL fans immediately flooded social media after the injury news broke.

Many pointed out the Giants’ growing injury problems, while others debated whether tough OTA practices or bad luck are to blame.

One Giants fan wrote:

“Two starters down and it’s not even June.”

Another fan simply said:

“The Giants can’t catch a break.”

That pretty much sums up the mood around the team right now.

What Happens Next?

Olszewski is undergoing further testing to confirm the Achilles injury, but early signs reportedly have the Giants fearing a season-ending outcome.

If confirmed, New York may need to:

  • Add another veteran receiver
  • Find a new return specialist
  • Accelerate younger players into bigger roles
  • Possibly revisit free-agent options before camp

For a team trying to bounce back from a rough season, this is a brutal way to begin the summer.

And the scary part?

Training camp hasn’t even started yet.
